Follow my Artist Journey

The Why, The What and The Way

Back in September, I made the decision to make my way towards retirement. Leave the world of food behind and return to my roots as an artist.

Those of you who have known me in the last 30 years of my live have never known the artist I was before I became a chef.

This blog documents my journey towards reclaiming my artistic self again. I am so excited!

I joined the year long Mastery Program at the Milan Art Institute on September 1, 2023.  Our first section of study is in Oils and Drawing.

I am nearing the end of this bit and am ready to start sharing my progress, struggles, challenges and success with you.

Part of being an artist is to share the process. There is so much more to art than the end result. For the artist, the expression of the energy for each piece is unique. It flows from an intangible place that is as real as you and I standing here. Connecting with that energy is magic.

Personally, I lose track of time when creating. The feeling of floating along with the art is amazing.

Behold the eye!

Here are a couple of new things just off the easel: wrapping up oil and drawing.

With each piece, there are specific instructions and techniques to be used for each piece.

Learning to master the same techniques as Van Gogh, Renoir, Matisse, Lichtenstein and other masters is quite eye opening.

Here are a few of my completed lessons:
